Make sure to always have gourmet soup and dehydrated chili mixes on hand for when company comes over. The TRAIL-READY Gourmet Soup & Chili Pack includes the following:

DIRECTIONS
Camp Stove:
Add gourmet soup or dehydrated chili mix and 2 cups water to pot. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Cover, remove from heat, and let stand an additional 5 minutes. Stir gently and serve.
BACKPACKING NOTE
Our Gourmet Soup & Chili Blends are an essential part of trail cooking. The Blend can be soaked prior to cooking to reduce the need for fuel. This can be done at mealtime or early in the day to save time during meal preparation. Just open the zip pouch, pour about 1/2 cup water in the pouch, and reseal. When you reach your campsite, simply pour your gourmet soup or dehydrated chili mix out of the pouch into your pot, add the remaining water, and heat to serve.

Whole Foods Plant Based Backpacking
I’ve tested the Verylicious Veggie Chili and the Unbelievable Black Bean Chili and both are great. Savory, and vegan friendly. They do contain soy, but that’s not an issue for me. I wanted to try these to see if they would work with the way I do meals in the backcountry. I started using Hydropeak Food Jars a couple years ago. Got tired of having Mountain House style meals cool off before being done cooking. Besides not having many good vegan options. And the pouches are awkward to eat out of. The jars hold the heat in a buzillion times better so the food keeps cooking, even when it is cold. The Harmony House Foods work very well with this setup. Just pour the contents into the container (one of these pouch’s fills it about half way) and pour in boiling water to just above the level of the soup mix. Put the lid on for 15 minutes and enjoy. That’s literally what I just did with the black bean chili and it came out great.
