Cooking with Dehydrated Food

If you've never cooked with dehydrated backpacking food before, fear not. It's easy! To make our premium dehydrated food, we evaporate the water through a special, slow, nutrient-preserving process. All you have to do is add the water back in by rehydrating. Cooking time is around 10 to 15 minutes, and clearly outlined on all of our packaging. For ease, we've also compiled a handy rehydration chart, so you always know how much water to add to the product. So kick back. Simmer, spice, and prepare to savor the pure, wholesome flavor of premium foods, under the sun or under the stars on your next backpacking trip.

Rating Tasty and quick
I bought the backpacking kit so we would have some veggies while spending a week on the Appalachian Trail. Unlike freeze dried dinners, these are just the pure foods. All were delicious. I made various combinations using the beans and veggies, adding spices, rice, noodles, bacon bits and tuna. I'd planned to save the leftovers for the next backpacking trip, but I've been enjoying them for quick, easy lunches. Soups made with these beans have a much better texture than soups made with canned beans. Our favorite veggies are the cabbage, carrots, celery and peppers. My only complaint is that the peas never really get soft, even after an hour of cooking. But they do taste good in a soup or with rice.

Rating Quantity and Quality in a LIGHTWEIGHT pack
I purchased two of these Backpacking Kits for my recent hike of the A.T. I was amazed at how many meals I out of just one Kit that I used the second kit in a drop box at the NOC. I added the veggies to almost every hot meal. It sure made noodles and rice taste a lot better.

Rating Yum on the CDT
We used this kit to add to some "b and r" and to add to a few other dishes to eat on the trail. It's a great selection and really adds to the flavor and nutrition of trailfood when out on a long trip.
